The Ai-DUAL Insert is made of two types of urethane resin: a soft surface that hits the ball and a hard interior.
As the “Ai” in the name suggests, the insert was designed by AI. However, unlike the Ai-ONE Insert and Ai-ONE Titanium Insert, this one is made solely from urethane resin, with a two-layer structure: a soft resin on the surface that hits the ball and a hard resin on the interior. The “DUAL” in the putter’s name refers to the two layers of the insert, hence the name of the insert, “Ai-DUAL Insert.”
The Ai-DUAL Insert not only delivers stable ball speed but also produces high-quality forward spin.
The boundary between the two resin layers has an uneven, complex, winding cross-section. The newly adopted FRD (Forward Roll Design) grooves, developed by AI, not only stabilize ball speed even on off-center hits, but also focus on the amount of spin imparted to the ball. Generally, when a ball strikes the upper part of the face, it tends to produce forward spin, and when it strikes the lower part, it tends to produce backspin. Naturally, this affects the ball’s rolling distance. The Ai-DUAL Insert also delivers stable forward spin regardless of the impact location, resulting in a more in-line roll that is less affected by slope or turf grain. In addition, the newly adopted FRD (Forward Roll Design) groove is structured with grooves that are grooved 19° from the face surface. Unlike the wave-like shape of the Ai-ONE insert, this groove has a unique shape that resembles a series of right-angled triangular depressions, which creates forward spin (rotation in the right direction).
The Ai-DUAL Insert offers a feel and sound closer to the WHITE HOT insert
. While the Ai-ONE Insert was developed to be similar to the White Hot Insert, some users complained that it was “harder” and “higher-pitched” than the White Hot Insert, likely due to its resin and aluminum construction. The Ai-DUAL Insert is made entirely of urethane resin, resulting in a softer feel and a sound closer to the White Hot Insert than the Ai-ONE Insert. Furthermore, the two-layer urethane resin construction and the aforementioned FRD grooves allow for a feel closer to the White Hot Insert. The Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square Putter’s insert’s lower surface forms the same surface as the sole, allowing for a more direct view of the AI-created, distinctive shape between the two resin layers than the Ai-ONE putter, which features a clear polycarbonate window.
The non-slanted grip allows for a natural stroke
. The grip is also noteworthy. It features the “S2S Reverse Taper 2.0 OS Grip,” which has a triangular cross-section and gradually thickens from the grip end toward the head end. This shape prevents unnecessary force from being applied to the right hand when using a standard grip with the right hand toward the head, enabling a more automatic stroke. The shaft also has a unique insertion method, passing diagonally through the grip. This means that when addressing the ball, the grip does not appear to be tilted like a shaft, allowing it to be held at an angle similar to a conventional putter. Zero Torque putters have shafts that are angled from the head’s center of gravity toward the ball flight line, resulting in a significantly hand-first stroke, which many players find difficult to achieve. However, this grip insertion method makes these zero torque putters easier to use.
The Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square Putter lineup includes two heads: the horn-shaped #7 and the
JAILBIRD, featuring a black and white striped alignment. These two heads are paired with an all-steel STROKE LAB shaft, weighing in at around 120g. The swing weight is higher than previous models to stabilize the stroke, and the black finish reflects requests from tour players. The putter is available in 33- and 34-inch lengths, with the JAILBIRD also available in a left-handed 34-inch length. The Ai-DUAL Square 2 Square Putter can also be customized.
